Before you set off on your well-deserved adventure, have you thought about what to pack? Don’t worry! We’ll cover everything you need to know about packing for a successful trip.

It’s important to keep in mind that May is Spring with balmy fluctuating temperatures, plenty of sunshine, and relatively low rainfall with higher temperatures along the coastline in Antalya.
  • For Istanbul we recommend you pack
  • Long trousers and short sleeved t-shirts.
  • Sleeved dresses, skirts, and t-shirts.
  • A light jersey for the evenings after the sun has set.
  • Comfortable walking shoes or sandals.
  • Tank tops and short tops that show the navel or midriff are not acceptable unless you're at the beach.
  • For Antalya we recommend you pack
  • Shorts, long trousers, and short sleeved t-shirts.
  • Shorts, skirts, and t-shirts.
  • A light jersey for the evenings after the sun has set.
  • Slip slops and sandals.
  • Swimming costume.
  • Hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses.
Don't forget to bring your passport and travel documents, a portable charger to ensure your phone and camera is always charged and international travel adaptor.
  • Other items to pack:
  • Small backpack.
  • Necessary medication and a travel-sized first aid kit.
And don't forget to leave some space in your suitcase for souvenirs and shopping finds!
This is singularly the most important daily item you will receive whilst away. Prior to departure, we will create a WhatsApp group. Your daily programme will be communicated to you daily via this group. Any instructions, changes to the programme or its timing will be communicated via WhatsApp. Please ensure that you connect to the hotels Wi-Fi on arrival to avoid missing any of the updates. If there is any reason you cannot attend a pre-booked function, please let your tour leaders know as soon as possible as to not hold up the rest of the group.
In Turkiye there's more than one socket type in use and you will need purchase a travel plug adapter. The frequency found in South Africa and Turkiye is the same.

You are prohibited from carrying e-cigarettes and other battery-powered portable electronic smoking devices in checked baggage. Please keep these in your hand luggage.
No vaccinations are required for South African Citizens.

If you’re on prescribed medication, please travel with a copy of your prescription (in English). Diabetics travelling with needles and syringes should take note that, to take these items on board the aircraft, a letter is required from your doctor (written in English) confirming the necessity of having these items on you at all times. Please remember to carry medication in your hand luggage and NOT in your checked luggage.

Have you wondered about drinking tap water in Turkiye and can you drink this without getting sick? While tap water is safe to drink, we do recommend you drink bottled water. Bottled water is widely available and is very cheap.
Laundry services are available at the hotels however, this will be for your own account.
Avoid having to unpack and repack your luggage at the airport by ensuring you meet the luggage requirements. Please take note of the allowed luggage allowance to avoid paying additional charges. Please remember to adhere to your domestic airline luggage allowance if connecting from a domestic centre.
  • Checked luggage
  • In Economy Class you are permitted 2 pieces of checked in luggage weighing no more than 23kg per piece.
  • The total dimensions (length + width + height) of each piece must not exceed 158cm.
  • At any time, should your overall baggage weight or number of bags exceed the complimentary free baggage allowance, excess baggage rates will apply.
  • Hand luggage
  • You are permitted one piece of carry-on baggage weighing no more than 4kg.
  • The total dimensions should not exceed 40 x 30 x15cm.
  • If you have liquids in your hand luggage, they must be in a clear plastic ziplock bag and containers may not exceed 100ml (with a maximum of 1 litre in total in the bag).
  • No sharp objects such as nail scissors, knives etc. are allowed in your hand luggage.
Luggage Wrap at O.R Tambo Airport

Due to the high incidence of luggage pilferage at most airports, we highly recommend that your luggage is plastic wrapped as well as secured with a padlock. Not only will your belongings be protected, having your luggage wrapped reduces the possible risk of your luggage being unintentionally opened or damaged.
Please can you ensure all your luggage is clearly marked with your name for your luggage to be identified as part of the group, as well as to allow for quicker and more efficient delivery of your luggage to your room.
We strongly recommend that you travel with small denominations in cash.

ATM’s are widely available and your debit or credit card can be used to draw currency provided you have activated this with your bank in advance.

The Turkish Lira (TRY) is the official currency of Turkiye. Euros are also widely accepted.

All your accommodation, meals and events specified on the itinerary will be covered. All extra items such as the mini bar, room service, and laundry will be for your own account.

If you wish to apply for a tax refund in Turkiye please note the following:
  • The price of the goods including VAT must exceed 100 TL.
  • Goods must be purchased in one day from a retailer marked by a TAX REFUND sign.
  • A TAX REFUND FORM and a receipt must be obtained from the retailer.
  • The purchased goods must leave the country within 30 days after the day of purchase.
  • The VAT refund must be claimed (1) with the same retailer in person or (2) through specialized collecting agencies (such as Global Refund, VAT MAX).
How to receive a Tax Refund:
  • Look for stores that display the Tax-Free Shopping logo, which indicates that they participate in the program.
  • Buy goods for more than 100 TL in one day from a retailer marked by TAX REFUND sign.
  • When you make a purchase, ask the salesperson for a Tax-Free Shopping form. You'll need to provide your passport number and other personal information, as well as details about the purchased items.
  • Keep the receipts for your purchases, as you will need to present them at the airport.
  • When you leave Turkiye, go to the Tax-Free Shopping desk at the airport with your receipts, your passport, and your Tax-Free Shopping form. The desk is usually located after security and immigration.
  • The staff at the Tax-Free Shopping desk will verify your information and process your refund, which can be paid out in cash or credited back to your credit card.
During your time of travel Turkiye is one hour ahead of South Africa.

The average sea temperature in Antalya is 21.4°C. During Spring the temperatures range between 15°C to 25°C in Istanbul, offering a comfortable climate for sightseeing and the outdoors and slightly warmer climate along the coastline in Antalya.
By far the most important thing you need to do before travelling is to check with your service provider about their current policies relating to international cell phone use and what your current contract already allows. Yes, our smartphones make our everyday lives much easier but can come with a hefty bill when you return home.
